⭐️⭐️⭐️
In another year of success for The Lionesses (sorry Scotland), people in the UK are, more than ever, aware of the journey that women’s football has been on over the last few decades and the stories that female footballers have to tell. Lucia Mallardi, Italian footballer and actress combines her talents to deliver her story in her one-woman show, The FootballActress.
Mallardi powers through the show playing multiple characters that she has met in a career that has taken her across Europe living out her dream of playing professional football, her successes, failures and finding her place in life as a performer. Performing in a second (or third or fourth) language can always be fraught with difficulty and some of the dialogue here is a little lost in translation.
Also, at an hour it felt like there was maybe a little more left to tell, but on the whole the show is well done and there will be many one-person shows at the Fringe this year that aren’t close to being as good as this is. The football skills on show are seriously impressive and the two sixteen year-olds I am with are left asking “how does she EVEN do that?!” (CB)
The Footballactress plays daily at studio at C ARTS | C venues | C aquila until August 24th - details here.
