Mark Simmons: His Latest Jokes

After Storm Floris did it’s best to put paid to this year’s Edinburgh Fringe for a number of the Darkchat team, myself included, I was glad to get to Liquid Rooms at all to see Mark Simmons for my first show of the festival.  If you’re a fan of comedy then you will no doubt have seen clips of Simmons online and you’ll know what to expect from his new show “Mark Simmons:His Latest Jokes”, which is, put simply, plenty of laughs. If you haven’t seen clips of him online then seek them out, enjoy them,  and then go and watch this show, you won’t be disappointed.  

Simmons tells us he is between tours and trying out some new material as the title of the show suggests, along with this we get a bit of classic stuff and also a bonus guest doing 10 minutes (today it's Danny Ward, co-host of Simmons’ “Jokes” podcast) so Mark can give some time to showcase other performers and five them a leg up. To the cynical amongst you, it might smack of someone not having a full hour but it doesn’t really matter, the large Monday audience (not just there because Pleasance was closed because of Floris) absolutely lapped it up.

I always like to get my Fringe year off to a flier and this year with this show I chose well. It’s non-stop laughs (well, maybe the odd groan) from start to finish, with hardly a foot wrong for the entire time, despite what Mark's clip board may (or may not) say.  

You will do well to find a better show at the Free Fringe this year and I guarantee you will leave this show smiling. (CB)
