Assembly Roxy Central

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Review by Thuranie Aruliah

Light strikes a darkened stage, waves of soft mist roll towards the audience, a voice speaks of memories of boyhood, companionship and youthful dreams as five young men clad in the shorts of boys, emerge, move together and apart, expressing bonds of unity, fun and friendship through interweaving patterns of dance and athletic movement. Each individual then takes us through an aspect of life and memory as grown men, with music, choreography and breathtaking circus skills evoking love, loss, humour and tragedy.

This Ukrainian company draws us into what begins as a shared universal emotional experience that gradually becomes focused on their nation’s current tragic predicament with beauty, grace, extraordinary agility and virtuosity. Every facet of this unmissable performance conveys a sense of a home, comrades and lovers lost, whilst keeping faith with “The Dream that surpasses Reality”, where Good must prevail.

It is visually stunning, exhilarating and profoundly moving.
