How to Fringe ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Sunday 9th August 13.30

Thanks to being retired I have had plenty of time to spend going through the records of the shows I have seen at the Edinburgh festival over the years.

This allowed me to calculate which performers I have seen the most and we have joint leaders , on 10 shows each, Thom Tuck and Rob Auton, both of whom are on this year's spreadsheet.

Tomorrow we plan to see Rob Auton so for one day only Mr T takes the lead. As usual he gives us plenty of opportunity to catch him as he is actually appearing in 4 shows this year.

He first came to our attention as part of the sketch show "The Penny Dreadfuls" which we loved, and we have followed his solo shows, acting (Scaramouche Jones) , host (Alternative Comedy Memorial Society) , one of a multitude of Tom's (Tomfoolery) and today he dons another hat, chat show host, under the premise of giving us advice about how to survive the Fringe, with the assistance of three guests.

Even though I have seen Thom a lot I was still a little surprised to discover what a good singer and guitarist he is as he serenaded us whilst the show was preparing to start.

First we met Katie Mitchell, talking about her current show "Giddy" and her previous experiences, followed by Stephen Catling : Clown Fish Out Of Water recounting the problems of appearing in a mask and Tarang Hardikar, "If I'm Not Wrong", looking a little like a young rabbit trapped in headlights as this is his first appearance in the Scottish capital.

This is quite gentle fare, but who doesn't want to be offered a cup of coffee by Thom's partner or a soft cushion by his mother.

If I am honest I hadn't heard of his three guests beforehand but this is an excellent way to uncover new talent and they may well in next year's 'to see' list under their own name.

And if I haven't sold this show to you already it is in a tent.

Job done. Go.
