Copycat ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Copycat is a solo show written and performed by Joe Sellman-Leava, a Darkchat favourite. We have enjoyed two of his previous shows at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival - Labels and It's The Economy, Stupid. With Copycat he has produced another splendid piece.

He is one of those performers who, within a minute or two, enables us to relax and have confidence that this will be an hour well spent. Sellman-Leava is so engaging and always has something relevant and thought provoking to say. Copycat poses questions about the future of human creativity in a world where technology, controlled by individuals who make Bond villains appear positively philanthropic by comparison, seems about to make us obsolete.

The subject may be bleak but the show is lightened with humour. Particularly when we are taken back to Joe's school days, where he discovered a talent for mimicry and a desire to perform.

At this point I have to make a confession, as early starts and late nights during the Festival, can lead to the dreaded 'Lull', when a warm, dark venue causes the eyes to become heavy. I am grateful to Joe Sellman-Leava for getting me past this day's 'Lull' with a performance of such energy and commitment that I was completely enthralled.
