Carys Should Be The Uks Next Eurovision Entry ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Sunday 9th August 15.05

Darkchatters David and Anne have two great theatrical passions in our lives. One is obviously the Edinburgh festival and the other, rather more surprisingly, is the Eurovision Song Contest.

As well as hosting themed food parties in the past we have now upgraded to actually attending shows and so far have been fortunate to attend contests in Lisbon, Liverpool, Malmo, Basle and this year in Vienna.

So, when I saw a show about Edinburgh in this year's festival brochure my eyes stood out on stalks and it went straight into our spreadsheet.

We have seen previous shows about our favourite music event over the years, Eurobeat, Douze and more recently the glorious Me And Barbara Pravi, spring to mind but Eurovision , surprisingly, is not a common theme at the worlds biggest arts festival.

On our opening day this is our third show and like the two that have proceeded it the title of the show explains what follows. Which means that for the next hour Cerys Jeffery Evans why should represent the United Kingdom in Bulgaria in May.

A lot of people who claim to love Eurovision prove to be a little hazy on the details. To be fair to our host she knows the history of the contest and what it takes to do well there. Again unlike a lot of UK entrants who expect to win she just wants to avoid repeating constant embarrassments.

Also, she isn't just an enthusiast. This girl can sing.

She Sings three songs, this year's winner, a previous Maltese entry and one of my favourite's from the 2022 contest. I really enjoyed this show, although I wouldn't have minded more songs, and it does help if you like the contest.

But she is such a warm, endearing host that you will enjoy spending an hour of your time even if you can only name "Waterloo" or that Bucks Fizz song from previous shows.

A lovely, unusual show from a lovely, unusual lady.

You can see just why Carys should be the UK's next Eurovsion entrant at Theatre 3 at theSpace @ Surgeons' Hall until August 22nd.
